How do you temporarily bypass the ON / OFF relay switch to turn this radio on with a variac? I replaced all the electrolytic capacitors and I wish to slowly power up the radio thank you in advance

After tenuous work on this radio, and looking at a place one would never consider, the switch ( hiding on the side of the record player)for speaker combinations was partially disintigrated and not connecting to all combinations on one chanel I removed this speaker switch from its location and rebuilt it with pieces of PC board and sheet metal cut to size The slider switch is operational again and the radio now functions in all modes I hooked up the original decoder for the SABA 4000, and the rad…

Is there a chance to place a silicon diode to replace the function of the EBC91 tube when placed in mono? regards Omer

  • Benutzer-Avatarbild

All switches function properly The EBC91 tube is weak for the portion that is dedicated for mono/AM. Is there a possibilty that there is an issue with the audio transformer too? The decoder that I am using, is a 7 pin made version of the schematic that was presented thanks Omer

Here is the 9 pin version of the stereo decoder that I am using I should note that the console ONLY plays on the left channel when it is in the AM (MW) mode?mono (NOT stereo) Vacuum tubes, EF86 and EBC91 are both very weak on the right channel Is this console /radio supposed to play on BOTH left and right speakers when engaged in AM? Thank you for responding to my question and sharing your knowledge of the complexity of this great radio! Omer

One of the most difficult radios I have restored in my collection! After removing and replacing ALL defective components on this radio, i was only able to receive AM (or MW) on one speaker..MONO (on the switch) To receive "stereo" on this console, you have to press FM (or FM )) and STEREO The schematics are VERY complicated and not complete, if one has it adapted to use a multiplex unit In my case, I had a solid state unit made for me by someone, specificalyy for this unit Here is the schematic …

    FISHER MPX 75

    OmerS - - Röhrenradios, Stereo

    Beitrag

Zitat: „sagnix postete Hallo OmerS, there you can find any informations: http://saba.magnetofon.de/showtopic.php?threadid=4446“ The Fisher MPX 75 uses 230 V DC for B+, the Fisher MPX 77 ( which I have)uses 180 V DC. If someone has the schematic for the 75, I would appreciate it. I would be able to see what changes, if any, I need to make on my 77, for it to work on the SABA

I am in the process of adding a Fisher multiplexer to SABA Freiburg 400/11 US export model with the 7 pin multiplex socket. Before I connect it, I would like to make sure of all the necessary changes I need to make to the Freiburg, for the audio output, from the discriminator, to the input of the multiplexer. The directions for SABA's E12 multiplexer, are a little more involved , than for the MPX 75. Does anyone have the schematic for the MPX 75, and full directions on how to install the unit on…

Could these two units, combined together, be used for this application? http://www.kemo-electronic.de/datasheets/m039.pdf http://www.kemo-electronic.de/datasheets/b127.pdf these two would replace this, http://www.jogis-roehrenbude.de/Roehren-Geschichtliches/Stereodekoder/Saba/E12/Saba-Dekoder-12.pdf It would be used for a SABA (US export version) 400 Automatic Stereo 11, with 7 pin socket for multiplex. thank you in advance and sorry for posting in English Omer

It sounds like you need to change capacitors.

Again , pardon me for not starting this thread in German. Does anyone out there have a list of all capacitors that are usually replaced, a long with any power resistors for this radio? I am about to embark on servicing a 400 US export model. Thank you Omer

There are distributors in North America, but not with the selection that Jan offers. My suggestion is, that for all those that are interested in using these type of capacitors, to contact the manufacturer and ask them if they could put something together for forum members, possibly using Volkers as the middle man. http://www.ftcap.de/seiten/de/anfrage_kontakt/anfrage_kontakt.php Since the order would be much smaller than what F&T is accustomed to, perhaps F&T's promotional department could engag…

Thank you very much Achim for the detailed explanation. Considering that the Freiburgs are commanding $1000.00 $2500.00 US, on EBay, and since many restorers seek authenticity, it would be worth investigating the possibility that the folks at F&T, through SABA forum's member Volkers, put some sort of package deal for forum members, that would include capacitor values that are used the most for these radios, as well as the multi electrolytic capacitors. Being that these radios are a part of Germa…

Thank you very much for all the answers. The reason I placed this post, is to find out what most restorers use for their SABA radios, Freiburg in specific. Achim articulated that he likes the F&T brand, and relegates the yellow capacitors for the cheaper SABA models. My placing all these capacitor sources, is to find out from forum members which kind of capacitors are mostly used. Since Volker is a member and sells capacitors, I have no problem paying for the extra shipping for axial type capaci…
