Mfg Piotr

Hello John, I narrowed it down pretty quickly - it turned out that one half of the transformer was burned and shorted - after repairing everything is in order - I just counted windings and gave it to my friend who repairs transformers, motors etc. and for a few Euros he wounded those coils. Best regards Piotr

BeitragIn this Freiburg there's a potentiometer in the back of the chassis. It regulates cut-off voltage for automatic search. Ideally you should set it as in the instructions (set P5 to zero Ohm, connect generator with 15V to points X and Y and then set it so the automatic is set off). But if you don't have generator you should slightly correct its position so automatic is more sensitive. Otherwise voltage from weaker radio stations is too low to overcome bias voltage of electromagnetic switch (EABC80…

I think it depends on recepture - I'm using parkettlack by V33 - it seems to be less aggressive than the others - it doesn't harden so fast and smells not so intensively. Probably any lacquer would do which enables you to make small corrections - afterward you need to delicately move that tape with scale paint over some kind of light that it exactly fits. That way it's impossible to tell there was something wrong. About those small cracks - if the scale is black, I refill them with black paint u…

Hello, I'm using small doses of polyurethane lack - it softens that tape and fills cracks underneath. That way cracking is almost invisible. You have to evenly cover all the glass under the tape otherwise there will be visible bubbles. Also you should try it first on invisible place - my lack doesn't react with scale paint, but yours can... Regards Piotr

Hello, did you check the diode under end switches? If you press the button, then part of engine voltage is rectified by it which in turn overcomes negative bias of EABC80, the tube starts conducting current and thus the magnet holds. Did also replace capacitor between engine and that diode? Or just checked it? Regards Piotr

Hello again, as it turned out it worked great! Voltage on ratioelko is around 19V on strong stations and there's much more of them. After replacing some caps and old resistors amp works great. But unfortunately automatic filter was badly decoupled, apparently someone turned it so tightly that I was afraid of breaking everything. Luckily it moved eventually. Somebody was guessing that it must be filter, but there was a problem of short circuit on automatic on/off switch - part of the engine volta…

Thank for the answer, I hope UKW tuner is not touched but I can't be sure - unfortunately someone was "repairing" this radio and there are so many things messed up... Wrong capacitors, a few of wrong resistors (additionaly he ddin't replace those brown carbon resistors), unadjusted cogs on motor and what's worse - he apparently decoupled automatic filter. I don't know if he didn't move those cores - I cleaned so many variometers and never once core did move and here they just slid. Luckily I bou…

Hello, does anybody have a measurements of how the cores should be positioned on glass rod? Unfortunately during cleaning glue suddenly let go and the cores slid upwards. First time it happened, and of course with 87-104MHz thus I cannot compare with other Freiburg. I only found the topic with measurements of Konigsfeld variometer, which are shorter. Regards Piotr

BeitragHello, I'm using similar method as Philipp. I'm soaking it under the shower and use washing powder mixed with bleach. Water must be cold! or otherwise it can dissolve glue. If there are boards from plywood - there's no problem. Worse if it's MDF (as in later Saba radios). What I'm doing is before washing I cover all the rims with wood glue (slightly dissolved with water - that way it better penetrates MDF). Then after drying there's minimalized risk of MDF swelling or staining the cloth. Of cour…

Hello, recently I aquired Freiburg 3DS. As this is very special radio I thoroughly checked it and replaced all the capacitors, also cleaned the contacts and engines. What is troubling me, I can't get rid of distortion. Radio plays with not enough bass as it is, but what's worse if I turn the volume up, the sound becomes distorted. I checked with Freiburg WIII - he plays great with loudspeakers from 3DS. I even replaced both EL84s with those from W3 and 100 - no change. ECC83 is NOS, EABC80 is ch…

Hello, can anybody tell me how the spring in the keyset should be placed? I routinely removed the contact slides, never had a problem in any of the other radios to put it all together again, so I never really took notice how it was exactly placed. Now it seems it can't fit logically, that long wire is in the way. I'm talking about this place here: keyset1.JPG And that spring: keyset2.JPG The small metal part is locking the automatic button.

BeitragHello, in such case you should definitely try to regenerate block capacitors than just destroy them irreparably. If you look at these links (use Google translate): http://oldradio.info/regeneracja1.html http://oldradio.info/regeneracja2.html you can see it can be done. My Saba 31WL works good with original parts. Regards Piotr

Hello, in the picture all capacitors are original, because at first I had to put it all together then I replaced them. I can't imagine replacing them when all circuitry was bare . I never turn on the radio without changing or restoring old capacitors. I solved that problem quite some time ago, but to tell you the truth I don't remember now. I think it was some problem in the contacts...

Parts of the mechanism in Saba 333WL
Peter J - - Suche / Biete
BeitragHello, recently I bought this beautiful Saba, but unfortunately there's small problem with the drive - one part is made from zinc and it cracked beyond recognition. 333wl_4.jpg Maybe someone could help with that? Regards Piotr

BeitragHello, just my two cents. I also noticed that restored radios are often much cheaper than unrestored ones, even in worse condition. I think collectors like to tend to radio themselves, not to correct somebody else. I have a rule that I don't buy "restored" radios, as original parts are important to me (even if they are inside small bag). I also tend to leave devices unrestored (after good cleaning) but that's only if device has all original parts (not so rare as it may seem) or it's just an aver…
