I didn't take many pictures from dismantling of the loudspeakers, but process is quite simple. I will try to describe it as best as I can. In Saba loudspeakers lower suspension is screwed with two bronze screws - membrane is much easier to remove than in those which have suspention glued. So here are the steps: 1. Unsolder lead wires 2. removing of felt around the membrane - I usually do this by hand, in some places I have to work with scalpel. 3. When the edge of membrane is visible, you have t…

Hello, So here’s the story behind all this. As I always wanted some Freiburg, I didn’t think much when there was auction with Freiburg WII. Apparently seller tried to restore it but as he said he didn’t have time for it, radio was slightly dismantled, nevertheless, not counting rear cover, it seemed complete. Poor Freiburg apparently was covered in rust and dirt and someone sprayed the front with red paint. Here’s the sorry state it was in: fb1.jpg fb2.jpg fb4.jpg Many of collectors would probab…

Hm, Probably it depends on type of lacquer... The one I use doesn't react with scale print (I restored scale of Nora Csardas this way, which had many tapes stick to the print). Maybe you should try it on some invisible corner? Regards, Piotr

Hello, maybe you should try to use lacquer? I'm using a small dose of poliurethane lacquer, the same I'm using to paint the housings. It fills up nicely that space between glass and this tape with lettering, so it looks like the rest of the scale. Of course on closer look it's noticeable.

Hello, slightly higher voltage is rather not a problem. I also have over 230V (usually 233/34V) and everything is OK. Just for sake of it you should check heater voltage, if it is in +/-5% tolerance. Next thing - capacitors. Usually the ones with tar covering are bad, you should replace them, especially where high voltage is present. As Heino said, there are often troubles with selen rectifier. Regards PJ

Hello, recently I bought this radio for a very nice price - and it turn out to be a good deal, as condition was very good. I had to choose between Freiburg 7 and this, and as I have already Meersburg 8 which looks very similar, I decided to buy M125 - there is a few interesting things about it, mainly mono-stereo system and automatic buttons. Lucily all zink parts were in order - this is a buying nightmare for me. I always wonder, why such a complicated clutch system - in many radios this is muc…

I have one question, how to remove buttons in those Grundigs (5010/4010)? I see there is some kind of springs, similar to Saba's buttons, but much smaller. PJ

    SABA Automatic Description in English

Hello, I was looking for a technical description, like the one in this link from Spanish website, but for next pages of it. I checked later models in the download section and finally I found similar description of SABA Freiburg 15 Vollautomatic (also in French). Seems I missed that one... I just like knowing how things work, so any of the technical descriptions are very valuable - I like to browse through forum in my spare time. Thanks to this "urge to know" I'm usually able to repair most of de…

Hello, today I was finally able to take some pictures, as good weather and free time finally met. The device is working great, although there's still a little problem with automatic - it finds more stations going from right to left than the other way. It is now my pride and joy, also one of my biggest sets, along with Beethoven and Grundig 4090. sabameer1.jpg sabameer2.jpg sababeeth1.jpg Regards, Peter

Hello, recently I've been looking for a description of automatic search. Google showed me something like that: www.elvalvulas.com/tusar/ajus3.pdf Does anyone have other pages from this manual? I couldn't find more on that page nor in the downloads section, but maybe I've been looking wrong... Best regards, Peter

Hello, thank you for your answers. Now I'm always switching off the motor if I want to listen to one station. I also cleaned cores in the UKW tuner which resulted in receiving more weak stations. All in all Saba has best reception (with Grundig 4090 maybe) - tested in the same place and with the same dipol antenne. I thought it was some kind of precise way of removing loose fits, I'm glad it turned out to be true. I also adjusted those wheel half-way - if they were set too tight, engine ran much…

Hello, Recently I bought my first Saba radio from 50ies. It turned out to be a very good bargain, as chassis condition was great - it seems that nobody was ever repairing this set, as all the capacitors were in place. Instead of EL84 was inserted EL86, which was probably at the end of her life, as capacitor between EF86 and EL84 grind wasn't replaced. But radio was on, when I came to pick it up! Thankfully nothing was burned, although output transformer now looks like it was starting to melt. Bu…

Well, it seems I was deleted from the system. Don't know if I did something wrong, but I'll try once again. Ivica, sorry for my unprecise words, I was wondering, if I should post in English in mostly German launguage forum Regards, Peter
