Saba wildbad 12

Hello, i am new to this site,i would like to introduce myself.I am an electrician working in a institute of technology in southern Ireland.Recently i purchased a lovely example of a wildbad 12,in working order.The only part not working was a faulty em 84 indicator valve which i replaced,it is now working perfectly.However our voltage here is 230 volts plus or minus 5v.will this cause problems with the transformer 220volt .supplying heater and High tension voltages.Also are there any components i should replace ie condensors,or diodes.

Hello Colin,

I am shure there is no problem with the transformer - it is the selen-rectifier! Replace it with an 1N4007 Diode and probably add a resistor of 100 Ohms. Then you should have the correct tension.
Do you have any service plans?

Hello,
slightly higher voltage is rather not a problem. I also have over 230V (usually 233/34V) and everything is OK. Just for sake of it you should check heater voltage, if it is in +/-5% tolerance.
Next thing - capacitors. Usually the ones with tar covering are bad, you should replace them, especially where high voltage is present.
As Heino said, there are often troubles with selen rectifier.

Thank you Heino,PJ, for your advice,i will check the heater voltage,and the operation of the diode,i do not remember seeing any tar capacitors,i will check these also.
The radios i have worked on in the past have been irish or british made.I am very impressed with the quality of design, and workmanship on my Saba Wildbad.The sound and reception of stations is excellent.
