Hi Achim! I *think* the early export UKW stereo SABA models used a version of the Fisher MPX-75. (per RMorg, Karl Schmitz) Having worked on only a rare few of these tube-type MPX receivers so many years ago, so I have little first-hand expertise for them. The Grundig single tube reflex decoders are indeed ingenious. Still trying here to fully understand the circuitry for them. I have had too much joy becoming somewhat familiar with repairing only two the infamous SABA E-14 transistorized decoder…

Hello renes It is my belief that the "export" (to North America) version of the Freudenstadt 11 is the SABA model 200 (1961-62). This model, as well as the export versions of the Meersburg 11 and Freiburg 11, was equipped with a stereo decoder specially designed for SABA by the "Fisher" Corporation (USA) Three tubes (1 x ECF80 2 x ECC83) (This is from my poor memory..Please correct me if I am wrong....) A recent auction from the U.S.A. shows one example with tube decoder: http://www.ebay.com/itm…

Zitat: „Peter J posteteAnd here's my first question - what function do have those double gears connected with some kind of spring, and how should they be put together? For the maksimum tension of that spring or around the middle?“ Hello Peter. The dual gear-set with spring tension is to remove "backlash" or loose fit in the mechanical tuning control. This is a common design to many tuning systems of many radios, whether manual tuning (see in also TO variable capacitors)- or models with motorized…

Hallo Christolph This seems so much coincidence you call my attention to those threads! At this time, I have recently converted a Freiburg 11 from 100mhz to 108 mhz. I accomplished this by using the tuning rod from a scrap Freudenstadt 2000-11 (export truehe console/floor model.) (This exchange of parts by number is allowed per the SABA conversion notes.) Also changed was the osz. plate resistor as a precaution, per the Saba notes, although the received signals were strong across the entire FM (…

Greetings Sabafans. When browsing some additional literature from SABA during the year 1964, I came across a notation that supports the theory of post - factory (nachbau?) partial modifications of some SABA radio models to North American standards for the UKW band without including the dialscales replacement. This info can be found at Radiomuseum.org Teil4: http://www.radiomuseum.org/forum/umbau_von_saba_geraeten_des_jahres_1964_auf_usa_ausfuehrung.html?thread_id=77074 Of course, this bit of evi…

Thanks for that tip! If there will be no other offers for one in better condition, that will be a good option for me. If so, I would then attempt to exchange the one broken "Bakelite" pressure plate for the one of two I have here. "Ferritantenne" = ferrite antenna. More Saba speaker madness: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250596979855&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT A few years ago it was the same for TFK round speakers

Hallo Joerg. Thanks for the greeting. Yes, I've seen the toggle arms and the central guides deteriorated, but this is my first experience with the coupling supports having this malady. It did work well until total failure while testing the refurbished motor drive assembly. Thanks for verifying this part is common to many Saba models over a wide span of years. With all those poor Saba radios having been stripped of their "Greencone" speakers, at least it should make it easier for me to find and p…

Hi Achim, Yes I was- and am- using only the single common path to the lamps. I had completely forgotten that I had used the two 1N4148 diodes in parallel, reversed polarity. (See above) until I actually looked under the chassis now. I am going to remove all doubt and use something better until I obtain more original type lamps. Thanks! ...and I apologize once more and am truly sorry for having posted my erroneous chatter. I promise for the future to not trust my memory alone. Cheers!

So far, only my WIII has been fitted with a set of ersatz Tastenlampchen. This radio had required zwei stueck of the original type at the time of restoring the chassis and I could not find any more of the original type, so I decided to substitute all the button lamps at once. All the spare 8.5V lamps I had in my stock were previously used to repair other Saba models. With the wholesale Tastenlampchen substitution in the WIII, once again I had gained five precious spare lamps for future use in th…
