Freiburg 3DS Loudspeakers

      Hello Friends of Saba!
      I have a question regarding the originality of the main speakers as found in an example of the model 3DS.

      This photo was sent to me from a highly regarded German radio expert here in the U.S.A.
      He owns two examples of the model 3DS, with both showing dissimilar speaker magnet designs, as depicted in the photo.
      Is it possible that Saba had different speakers for the original installation in some radios of this model 3DS?
      It appears to me that only the magnet structures are different.
      I know of differences for some other Saba models such as the WIII, but the example in the photo seems unusual when compared to the other examples as shown in various photos found on the internet. So is my wonder.
      I would very much appreciate the expert advice of those here.

      Saba used to tinker around with Speaker combinations for their "larger" models all the time.
      The reason for using two different speakers in Freiburg models was either - in rhe case of WII WIII -that one had the coaxial tweeter built in and the 2nd speaker didn`t.
      As for 3DS and later models the main reason appears to be different resonance frequencies and thus an improvement in sound. (This reason was relevant in WII WIII models also).
      So they combined 2 speakers with different magnets and /or different cone materials to improve sound.
      In later models, when supply sometimes didn`t catch up with demand we have the impression they sometimes just put in what they had available...
      Same goes for Meersburg, Freudenstadt models by the way...
      In the case of FB 3DS however I´m sure SABA did exactly know what they were doing.

      es gab sogar Geräte, die nicht die kleinen Isophon Mittelhochtöner hatten, sondern die größere geschlossene Metallausführung.
      Ich denke, man hat experimentiert, entwickelt, probegehört usw.
      Sicher waren die gewünschten Chassis auch nicht immer in ausreichender Stückzahl verfügbar.
      Willkür, denke ich war gerade beim 3DS sicher nicht im Spiel, es war schließlich das Spitzenmodell.
      Die Vorteile der unterschiedlichen Resonanzfrequenzen weren ja auch in einer Saba Publikation ausdrücklich hervorgehoben.
      Ich habe früher fleissig Lautsprecherboxen gebaut - das verrückte ist: Ein Klang den man heute als perfekt ansieht, fällt bei einem weiteren Probehören ein paar Tage später glatt durch und man fängt wieder an zu modifizieren.

      Die waren auch nicht geschlossen, die waren offen!

      Hallo everyone, and I thank you for the responses to my questions.
      That advice reassures me of the possibility that the example of the 3DS I have shown in the photo contains its original (or at least bona fide and proper) speakers.
      Perhaps now, I might be lucky to acquire a fair, restorable and affordable (to me) example of this fine model from Saba. I hope!

      I also had observed the mitteltoen speakers as a variant in some examples of the 3DS, which had also added to my wonder and confusion.

      Hi there,
      don't be confused.
      Both of the 3D-S Types, the "Bodensee automatic 3D-S" and "Freiburg automatic 3D-S" were born as "Bodensee automatic" and "Freiburg automatic".

      The side-speakers were added about half a year later because Graetz (?) invented the "3D Sound" and it bekame a must have also for the other manufacturers.

      So I assume the side-speakers made by Isophon were the early ones because of the availability.
